given oxygen is a main step of the treatment of pulmonary edema. Treatment of this disease depends upon its underlying causes. The treatment of pulmonary edema includes reducing the amount of fluid in the lungs, improve gas exchange and heart function. If the pulmonary edema is in severe condition, a mechanical ventilator and a tube down the throat will be used to improve the delivery of oxygen. Non-invasive pressure support ventilation is another technique of treatment. In this procedure the patient breathes against a flow of positive airway pressure (through a face or nasal mask). This method has a minimum effort to breathe and increase the oxygen and carbon dioxide exchange.
Nitroglycerin, morphine, diuretics, angiogenesis-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors are used in the drug therapy.
