Fibrosis

The term fibrosis means scaring. Fibrosis is a disease of respiratory system. this is divided into four categories.

1) Pulmonary fibrosis
2) Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis
3) Cystic fibrosis
4) Cirrhosis of the liver

Pulmonary fibrosis

Pulmonary Fibrosis is a condition in which some fiber like scar tissue is formed in the lungs. As the Pulmonary fibrosis increases the lung tissue become thick and stiff, that results the breathlessness. The Pulmonary Fibrosis is also known as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), fibrosing alveolitis and interstitial diffuse pulmonary fibrosis.

Causes of Pulmonary Fibrosis

There are many causes of Pulmonary Fibrosis.
1) Infections
2) environmental agents
3) chronic condition and medications.
4) Inhaled environmental and occupational pollutants
5) Rheumatoid Arthritis
6) Lupus
7) Therapeutic radiation

Signs and Symptoms

Some symptoms of pulmonary fibrosis is given below -
1) Coughing
2) breathlessness
3) feel difficulty in exercise

The growth of symptoms time to time vary and also depend upon the cause of pulmonary fibrosis.

Treatment for Pulmonary Fibrosis

The treatment for pulmonary fibrosis is depending upon its causes. some pulmonary fibrosis can be treated by suppressing inflammation with corticosteroids .Stronger immune suppressants ( cyclophosphamide (Cytoxan) or azathioprine (Imuran) ) may also be helpful for the treatment of pulmonary fibrosis.
For incurable disease a lung transplant may be an option.
Yoga, meditation and music therapy and biofeedback are some other option for the treatment of pulmonary fibrosis.

Prevention

1) Try to avoid the dust particle (coal dust, silica).
2) Avoid exposure fumes
3) avoid smoking
