Bronchitis

Bronchitis is defined as a inflammation of “bronchial passages”( mucus membrane in the lungs). There are two forms of bronchitis-
1) Acute
2) Chronic

In acute bronchitis there is a cough and phlegm production .Chronic bronchitis is severe long term disorder.

Causes of Bronchitis

Acute Bronchitis is generally occurs because of lung infections. In this infection 90% infections are viral origin and 10% are of bacterial. There are various factors of causing chronic bronchitis, in which repeated attacks of acute bronchitis is the main factor. Industrial pollution may be another factor of chronic bronchitis.
Grain handlers, Coal miners, Metal molders, and other people who are continually exposed to dust are mostly inflamed with chronic bronchitis. But the long-term cigarette smoking is the most of the common factor of causing chronic bronchitis. Chronic Bronchitis is also caused by high concentration of sulfur dioxide
and with the different pollutant in the atmosphere.

Signs and Symptoms

Signs of acute bronchitis-
1) cough
2) after cough; there is yellow, white and green phlegm.
3) fever
4) tightness in chest
5) soreness in chest
6) during deep breathing you feels some pain in breastbone.
7) Feels some shortness of breath
 
Signs of chronic bronchitis-
1)
persist cough (with yellow, white or green phlegm.) at least for three months.
2) Some times you feel breathlessness or wheezing.

Treatment for Bronchitis

acute bronchitis is generally clears from virus by itself. Humidifier is useful in treatment of bronchitis. You should also take a cough medicine that contains an expectorant. Always drink plenty of food .If you have a bacterial infection of bronchitis your health care provider may prescribes antibiotics. If you have some bronchitis problem then there is need to change your life style.

1) Try to avoid smoking.
2) Always use stream in bathroom.
3) Always drink plenty of food.
4) You are required rest if you have an active infection.
5) Home oxygen therapy will be prescribed if you have low oxygen level (from chronic bronchitis)

Prevention

1) Never smoke and try to stay away from air pollutants.
2) Try to avoid infection which may lead to bronchitis.
3) Take and Pneumococcal vaccine and annual flu vaccine once in your life.
