Disruptive Behavior

INFORMATION ON DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR DISORDER
Disruptive Behavior Disorders involve behaviors that “break the rules.” Young people of all ages break some rules, especially less important ones. More serious oppositional behavior is a normal part of childhood for children two and three years old and for young teenagers. At other times, when young people are routinely very, very oppositional and defiant of authority, a mental health disorder may be identified.

TYPES OF DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR DISORDER
There are three main Disruptive Behavior Disorders:

1. Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder
2. Oppositional Defiant Disorder
3. Conduct Disorder

CAUSES OF DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR DISORDER
Biological and environmental factors lead to the development of disruptive behavior in child and adults.

SYMPTOMS OF DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR DISORDER
Symptoms of disruptive behavior disorder are:-

1. Loss of temper.
2. Involve in argument with adults.
3. Subject often deny request of adults.
4. Blame others for his/her mistakes.
5. Easily annoyed by others.
6. Talking excessively.
7. Taking part in physically dangerous activities without considering consequences.

DIAGNOSIS OF DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR DISORDER
So far there is no clinical method to diagnose disruptive behavior disorder.

TREATMENT OF DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR DISORDER
The treatment that has shown the best results is a combination of:

1. Specialized parent skills training
2. Behavior therapies to teach young people how to control and express feelings in healthy ways
3. Coordination of services with the young person’s school and other involved agencies

Parent training and therapy with the child or adolescent, most effective when done in the family home

No medications have been consistently useful in reducing the symptoms of Oppositional Defiant or Conduct Disorders. Medications may be helpful to some young people, but they tend to have side effects that must be monitored carefully
