Bulimia Nervosa

INFORMATION ON BULIMIA NERVOSA
Bulimia Nervosa is one of the types of neurological disorder in which people frequently eat large amounts of food while feeling a loss of control over their eating. Bulimia Nervosa is different from binge-purge syndrome (bulimia nervosa) because people with Bulimia Nervosa usually do not purge afterward by vomiting or using laxatives.

CAUSES OF BULIMIA NERVOSA
So far the exact cause of Bulimia Nervosa is unknown. But some of the researcher believe that excessive emotional stress, depression can be one of the reason for the development of Bulimia Nervosa.

SYMPTOMS OF BULIMIA NERVOSA
The various symptoms of Bulimia Nervosa are:-

1. Eating large amounts of food uncontrollably (bingeing).
2. Vomiting, abusing laxatives or diuretics, or engaging in fasting.
3. Dieting, or vigorous exercise (purging).
4. Preoccupation with body weight.
5. Using the bathroom frequently after meals.
6. Depression or mood swings.
7. Irregular menstrual periods.
8. Onset of dental problems, swollen cheeks or glands, heartburn or bloating.

TREATMENT OF BULIMIA NERVOSA
The various therapies that are available to treat Bulimia Nervosa are:-

1. Cognitive-behavioral therapy to a subject teaches techniques to monitor and change their eating habits as well as to change the way they respond to difficult situations.

2. Interpersonal psychotherapy helps subject to examine their relationships with friends and family and to make changes in problem areas.

3. Treatment with medications such as antidepressants may be helpful for some individuals. Self-help groups also may be a source of support.
