Binge Eating Disorder

INFORMATION ON BINGE EATING DISORDER
Binge eating disorder is one of the types of neurological disorder in which people frequently eat large amounts of food while feeling a loss of control over their eating. Binge eating disorder is different from binge-purge syndrome (bulimia nervosa) because people with binge eating disorder usually do not purge afterward by vomiting or using laxatives.

CAUSES OF BINGE EATING DISORDER
So far the exact cause of binge eating disorder is unknown. But some of the researcher believe that excessive emotional stress, depression can be one of the reason for the development of binge eating disorder.

SYMPTOMS OF BINGE EATING DISORDER
The various symptoms of binge eating disorder are:-

1. Eating much more rapidly than usual.
2. Eating until uncomfortably full.
3. Eating large amounts of food, even when not physically hungry.
4. Eating alone out of embarrassment at the quantity of food being eaten.
5. Feelings of disgust, depression, or guilt after overeating.

TREATMENT OF BINGE EATING DISORDER
The various therapies that are available to treat binge eating disorder are:-

1. Cognitive-behavioral therapy to a subject teaches techniques to monitor and change their eating habits as well as to change the way they respond to difficult situations.

2. Interpersonal psychotherapy helps subject to examine their relationships with friends and family and to make changes in problem areas.

3. Treatment with medications such as antidepressants may be helpful for some individuals. Self-help groups also may be a source of support.
