As the name implies Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome - in short- TMJ syndrome is the disease or syndrome related to mandible, the lower jaw and temporal bone, a part of our skull.
The Temporomandibular Joint helps in our lower jaw movement when we bites and chew the food. In other words we can say that through temporomandibular joint our food divides into very small particles with the help of facial muscles, nerves and proper blood supply. When these facial muscles, nerves are not able to work properly with mandible and blood supply is also not proper then temporomandibular joint syndrome happens in lower jaw and pains occurs.
There are many reasons due to which Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome may possible. Sometimes if we bite our food Incorrectly or in uneven manner then TMJ syndrome is possible. The grinding of our teeth during sleep, any kind of stress or tension in shoulder and neck may be cause of temporomandibular joint syndrome.
