Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction

Symphysis Pubis is a joint at the front of pelvis and made by two large bones. Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction - in short - SPD is a disease or disorder in women during pregnancy time. Most of the women have this disorder in their pregnancy or child birth.

During a woman pregnancy, women body secrets various hormones. Due to these hormone secretions ligaments becomes soft and stretch the pelvis during labour time. Sometimes during labour and pregnancy pelvis joint get disturbed and comes in an unstable order. Because of this instability of pelvic joint very severe pains occurs at front side or back side of pelvis. Women have problem and pains during walking, turning over at bed and climbing stairs etc. Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction generally happens in late pregnancy but some times it may found in initial pregnancies also.

Causes & Symptoms:

It is rather difficult to mention causes of symphysis pubis dysfunction. Symphysis pubis dysfunction occurs because of hormonal changes during pregnancy. Sometimes if a woman already has some problem in her pelvis or having large babies then there are greater chances of symphysis pubis dysfunction.

Generally symptoms may be differ from woman to woman because some woman have mild pains and others have severe pains. Following are few symptoms that can be found in a lady during symphysis pubis dysfunction.

  1. Painful pubic area
  2. Pains during movement
  3. Back pains may be occur
  4. Hip pains may be occur
  5. Lower abdomen pains
  6. Temporary bladder dysfunction
  7. Knee pains are generally found
Some helpful tips for women -
  1. During pregnancy you should use pillow under tummy while sleeping.
  2. Should avoid sudden movements
  3. Bed rest is must
  4. Comfortable mattress should be used
Treatment:

There are lots of drugs that controls imbalance of hormones. Some pains relief drugs should be taken but take them after consulting you doctor. When you are going to your doctor for your symphysis pubis dysfunction then tell him whole problem without any hesitation so that proper treatment will be prescribed.
