Sometimes it may found that you have sudden pains and slightly swelling in your joints or muscles. It may occur due to Sprains and Strains. Sprains and Strains both are orthopedic injuries but have some differences.
Sprains:
Ligaments are strong connective tissues those supports joints of our body. The condition, in which these ligaments become stretched, is known as Sprains. The severity of the sprain depends on the extent of injury and number of ligaments involved in Sprains. Stretch may be mild or severe. Sprains generally found in Ankles but it may occur in both the upper and lower parts of the body,
Strains:
Tendons are fibrous connective tissues those connects our muscles to bones. So we can say that our bones get support from muscles and tendons. A strain is a injury in either tendons or muscles. Like sprains, strains are also occur in legs and rarely happened in other body parts. Severity depends on no of tendons or muscles involved in injury.
Causes of Sprains and Strains:
Many times muscles or tendon becomes twisted or pulled. This is main cause of Strain. Strains may be mild or severe. A sudden twist, force on joints, heavy exercise of joints may be the main causes for sprains.
Symptoms:
Symptoms of Sprains and Strains are very similar.
- Loss of the ability to move.
- Pains (often severe) in affected area.
- Swelling at affected joint or bone is obvious.
- Affected area may be very red or warmth because of swelling.
- Stiffness during movement of joints.
- Bleeding may be found in severe cases.
Treatment:
Because symptoms of Sprains and Strains are very similar so that same treatment can be followed.
- Try to give full rest to affected part of the body.
- Ice packs are very helpful to remove swelling and decrease the severe pains.
