Rotator Cuff Injury

In the Humerus, the upper arm bone, a tendon of four muscles subscapularis muscle, supraspinatus muscle, infraspinatus muscle and teres minor muscle form the rotator cuff. The tendon keeps our shoulders joint stable in rotator cuff and helps to shoulders in their motion in any direction. An inflammation in rotator cuff in known as Rotator Cuff Injury.

Rotator cuff injury generally found in baseball pitchers, swimmers, weight lifters and tennis players because these sports require largest shoulder movement. Pitcher's shoulder, swimmer's shoulder, and tennis shoulder are the other names used in place of rotator cuff injury.

Causes and symptoms

The most common cause of rotator cuff injury is less blood supply in muscles of tendon. Because of less blood supply the shoulders don't get enough oxygen and nutritions. Another cause of rotator cuff injury may be excessive force and stress on shoulders and it is generally happens due to heavy weight and movement of shoulders in wrong direction.

The common symptoms for rotator cuff injury are severe pain in shoulders, swelling, weakness etc. Shoulder pain is not always occur but when we move our shoulder ups and downs or shake hands then it create pains. It is generally difficult to find out the actual point of pain but generally pains occur during any movement by shoulder and sometimes at night. Due to swelling patient feels uncomfert in performing any activity like combing their hair, sleeping on the affected shoulder etc. Patient often feels dullness or weakness because of rotator cuff injury.

Prevention and Treatment

Rotator cuff injury can be very serious so that a fast and effective treatment is must. In case of less blood supply we should use heat lamps because by using heat lamps we can easily increase blood flow.

If swelling is occurring than massage is very important treatment. By massage on swelled area we can decease strains and tears of muscles. Many Anti-Inflammatory medications are available and due to that we can control the symptoms of a rotator cuff injury. Surgery should be applied in severe cases.

Always keep one thing in your mind that "Prevention is better than Cure".
So, we should avoid heavy weights and don’t ignore common injuries etc.
