Post Polio Syndrome

Polio is a well known viral disease in which nervous system may be damage. The result of polio in people is paralysis. Sometime the person who has polio infection initially have this condition again in their life. Reappearance of polio in people known as "post polio Syndrome" - in short - PPS.

Causes of post polio syndrome:

To find out exact causes for post polio syndrome is rather difficult. According to latest theory, the main cause of post polio syndrome is degeneration of nerve cells. This degeneration of nerve cells are possible because of polio virus infection. The post polio virus mainly affects the nerves of spinal cord so that it brain is unable to get proper impulses. Nerves related to spinal cord carries message from muscles to brain.

Signs and Symptoms:

  • In post polio syndrome, muscles and joints have pains
  • Sometimes patients feel breathing or swallowing problems
  • Some patients have some disorders related to sleeping
  • Limb muscles become weak.
  • Tolerance power against cold temperatures are gradually decreased
