Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a disease of bones in which bones become thinner and weak and loses its mineral and proteins density specially calcium density. Osteoporosis generally affects women rather than men because it generally happens after Menopause in women. Older age group, very thin people, smoking and high alcohol intake, eating disorders also very common reason of osteoporosis. Fractures are the most common result of osteoporosis.

Causes of Osteoporosis:

The strength of bones is in their density and bones density depends on calcium, phosphorus and other minerals levels in bones contain. Calcium loss can be caused by hereditary factors, intake of salt, high-fat and cholesterol foods, caffeine, and tobacco products. A heavy and fast exercise also increases the risks of Osteoporosis.

Prevention and Treatment:

You can prevent yourself from osteoporosis by following tips.

Calcium is must: Calcium and its supplements are must for our bones to keep them healthy. We should eat 1300 milligrams calcium every day.

Smoking is harmful: Smoking increases the percentage of bone loss that is why avoiding smoking we can prevent our self from osteoporosis.

Avoid cold drinks: We should avoid carbonated cold drinks because these reduce our calcium level in cells.

Eat different types of food products: Although calcium is must but other minerals, zinc, boron etc. are also useful. So we should eat fresh fruits, green vegetables, nuts and other unprocessed foods.

Start Exercise: Exercises are helpful to build up our bones. Walking, swimming, cycling are best forms of exercise.

Vitamin D level: we should increase our vitamin D level in our body. Morning sunrays are best source of vitamin D.

Calcitonin hormone: This is a hormone which used to be given, by injection, for a limited period of weeks, but is now available as a nasal spray, which is used long term.
