Osteomalacia

Osteomalacia is also a bone disease like osteoporosis. In osteomalacia bones becomes weaker than a normal case due to deficiency of vitamin D3.

Causes:

As we know that calcium is very important nutrient for our bones and increases the strength and Stiffness of bones. The absorption of calcium and phosphorus in our intestine may be possible by vitamin D. So, vitamin D formation is essential for our healthy bones. Osteomalacia is also known as Rickets. Generally found in children and known by rickets but may be possible in adults and known by osteomalacia.

We can get vitamin D from main two sources. In presence of sunlight our skin forms vitamin D3. It is the first source of getting vitamin D and another source is a perfect diet. Milk products also help in formation of vitamin D in our body.

So, we might be face osteomalacia if we have vitamin D deficiency in any manner like Kidney failure, Eating too little vitamin D, Too little exposure to sunlight. Kidneys play an important role in vitamin absorption.

Prevention and Treatment:

At low level osteomalacia is not risky because we can improve our vitamin D level by taking vitamin D supplements. Exposure to sunshine, halibut-liver oil, cod liver oil and viosterol are very important sources of vitamin D. We have to take healthy diet if we want to prevent our self from osteomalacia.
