Human knee joint consists of 3 bones; First, shin bone or Tibia, second, thigh bone or Femur and last one is patella. Patella is also known as kneecap. The knee joint divided into two joints - tibio-femoral joint and patello-femoral joint. Tibio-femoral joint is the joint between tibia and the femur bone and patello-femoral joint is the joint between the patella and the femur. Degeneration of cartilage at back of Patella or knee cap is known as Chondromalacia Patellae. Because of softening of the cartilage the patient fell dull or discomfort around or behind the patella in Chondromalacia Patellae disease.
Causes may include:
Chondromalacia Patellae disease may be possible if a person face any of following
situations.
Misalignment of the kneecap
Overuse of knee
Knee Injury during sports
Muscle imbalance
Arthritis of the knee
Symptoms of Chondromalacia Patellae disease:
Dull pain around or under the knee cap
Knee pain during walk down stairs
Knee pain during walk downhill
Knee pain climbing stairs
Prevention to avoid Chondromalacia Patellae disease:
Should avoid overuse of knee
Avoid hells and should wear comfortable shoes.
Should avoid Hard Surfaces
Avoid Fast-impact exercises
Treatment of Chondromalacia Patellae:
Pain relief drugs may be helpful to release knee pain of Chondromalacia Patellae disease. Ice packs or Heating pads are useful for fast relief by control major pains.
