Aarskog Syndrome is one of the genetic disorders that are rarely found. Aarskog syndrome is inherited disease and normally affects men than women. Aarskog syndrome is known by various other names also like AAS, Greig syndrome, Faciodigitogenital Syndrome, Faciogenital Dysplasia, FGDY and Aarskog-Scott Syndrome etc.
Causes & Symptoms:
Aarskog Syndrome is caused by X chromosome. In aarskog syndrome X chromosome have abnormalities in a gene called FGDY1. FGDY1 is a component of X chromosome. Aarskog Syndrome affects various parts of our body, some of which are mentioned below.
- Face becomes round.
- Mental deficiency may be possible at mild level.
- Sometimes sexual maturation may be delayed.
- Eyes become wide and eyelids become droopy.
- Mid portion of face found undeveloped.
- Nose is small.
- Groove below the nose becomes wide.
- Fingers are very short.
- Undescended testicles
It is very difficult to cure aarskog syndrome so prevention should be followed. Treatment for Aarskog Syndrome is depend on affected part of the body, like Facial abnormalities requires different treatment. Surgical treatment is only option to treat aarskog syndrome. sometimes hormone treatment is beneficial in case of aarskog syndrome.
