TRACHOMA

INFORMATION ON TRACHOMA:-

Trachoma is a highly infectious disease of eyes which can lead to blindness. Trachoma generally caused by bacteria called “Chlamydia”. If trachoma is left untreated then it can result in serious pain with irritation in eyes. Symptoms of trachoma closely resembles to symptoms of conjunctivitis.


CAUSES OF TRACHOMA:-

The factor which leads to the development of trachoma is the bacteria called Chlamydia. This bacterium comes in contact with eyes by towels, clothes or even insect which carry them.


SYMPTOMS OF TRACHOMA:-

1. Conjunctivitis.

2. Swollen eye lids.

3. Liquid discharge from eye.

4. Cloudy cornea.


TREATMENT OF TRACHOMA:-

If trachoma is diagnosed earlier then it can be treated with antibiotic like erythromycin and doxycycline. If complication occurs then eye lid surgery may be needed to prevent chronic scarring.
