DEFINITION
Eye cornea is a transparent wall of our eyes that covers pupil and iris. Cornea works as window and allows to enter light in eyes and reflects most of the incoming light. Keratoconus – in short – KC is a non-inflammatory and progressive eye disorder in which cornea becomes thin and forms cone like structure. The other name of keratoconus is “Conical Cornea” and its not a blindness.
Keratoconus generally found in the late teens or early twenties and result of these abnormalities is problem in even very simple task like watching TV, reading books etc. Keratoconus is rarely found but it may be inherited in children through their parents.
CAUSES AND SYMPTOMS :
There are no certain causes of keratoconus but it may found in person who has light sensitivity. If a person have keratoconus than it may possible that any person in his family also have keratoconus.
Symptoms of keratoconus :
- Minor blurring of their vision
- Problem while reading, driving etc.
- Irritation due to light sensitivity
- Sometimes double vision
- Pains
Treatment of keratoconus depends on severity of condition you have. If you have mild condition of keratoconus then you can use contact lenses.
In severe cases corneal transplant are useful.
