What is Cataract?
Cataract is eye problem or disease because of that patients have vision problem and other problems related to vision. A bright colorful image seems blurred or diffused because of cataract. Cataract generally affects old people but it may happen in young age also. Cataract may affect single or both eyes.Causes of Cataract
- Diabetes (major reason)
- Any accident or injury in eyes (for traumatic cataract)
- Harmful Ultraviolet rays from sunlight
- Some harmful drugs
- Congenital cataracts in children due to their parents
- Smoking and drinking in access
Symptoms of Cataract
The symptoms of cataracts appears gradually in patients. At starting patients doesn't have pains in eyes.
Symptoms include:
- Dim and clouded vision
- True bright color seems dull and faded due to vision problem
- Multiple or double vision in one eye
- Vision worsens at night
- Light sensitivity
- Problems while reading and other activities
- Inability to differentiate different shades of colors especially blue shades.
Types of Cataract
- Age-related cataract: Cataracts generally happens in old age.
- Congenital cataracts: As the name implies this type of cataracts found by birth in child.
- Secondary cataract: Secondary cataract is a type of cataracts in which it happens due to another medical problem as a secondary problem.
- Traumatic cataract: Sometimes cataracts happens in people due to any accident or injury in eyes.
According to area affected by Cataracts:
- Nuclear cataract - When Cataracts affects center area of lenses
- Cortical cataract - initially happen at boundaries of lenses and then gradually increases upto center part of lenses and form spoke like structure.
- Subcapsular cataracts - cataracts start from back part of the lenses and if generally found as secondary cataracts.
Treatment of Cataract
- Surgery (effective way)
- Night driving should be avoided
- Magnifying glass to be used while reading
