Seitelberger Disease
INFORMATION ON SEITELBERGER DISEASE
Seitelberger Disease is also called as Infantile Neuroaxonal Dystrophy (INAD). Seitelberger disease is extremely rare disease that can be transfer in children through inheritance from their parents. Sometimes the end part of the nerve that is called as axons get some abnormalities then the condition is known as Seitelberger Disease or Seitelberger Disorder. Abnormalities may happen in nerves of brain, central nervous system or spinal cord and its peripheral nerves means nerves outside the central nervous system.
CAUSES OF SEITELBERGER DISEASE
Seitelberger Disease is caused by inherited degenerative disorder of the nervous system. It generally appears between 14 to 18 months of age.
SYMPTOMS OF SEITELBERGER DISEASE
The main symptom of seitelberger disease is swelling. Other symptoms those are also common in children includes degeneration of nerve endings in few areas of brain and spinal cord and outside the central nervous system etc.
Main symptoms are:
1. Muscle weakness.
2. Depressed.
3. Mental retardation.
4. Involuntary movements of the face and hands.
5. Paralysis of the legs and lower part of the body.
6. Sudden involuntary muscle spasms.
TREATMENT OF SEITELBERGER DISEASE
There is no specific treatment for Seitelberger Disease and the treatment which is present is symptomatic and supportive. You can have a pain relief and sedation. Physiotherapists and other physical therapists can teach parents and caregivers how to position and seat their child, and to exercise arms and legs to maintain comfort.
