Salivary glands are glands those found in pair around our mouth and throat. Our major salivary glands are parotid, submandibular and sublingual glands. Other than these glands, there are some tiny and minor glands also. Work of these salivary glands is to secrete saliva in mouth like parotid salivary glands secrete saliva near to upper teeth through salivary ducts, submandibular salivary glands secrete saliva under the tongue and sublingual secretes saliva at the floor of the mouth. There are numerous diseases and disorder that affects major and minor salivary glands. Well known diseases of salivary glands include inflammatory disorders, obstructive disorders, developmental disorders and idiopathic disorders etc.

Main cause is a stone that form from salts which contained in the saliva. Swelling may also caused by mumps, bacterial infections and other diseases. Swelling also can result from cancerous or noncancerous tumors in the salivary glands.

Treatment of salivary diseases may be done by two ways medical and surgical. Treatment is readily managed by an otolaryngologist-head and neck surgeon with experience in this area. A mass is gathering within the salivary gland, removal of the mass may be recommended. You can go through certain medicine available in market. Stones can be removed by surgical methods.
