Postural Hypotension
INFORMATION ON POSTURAL HYPOTENSION
Postural hypotension may be defined as the sudden fall in the level of blood pressure when a person changes his/her body posture or stand up.
CAUSES OF POSTURAL HYPOTENSION
1. Decreased amount of blood in the body.
2. Abuse of certain drugs.
3. Dehydration.
4. Prolonged bed rest.
SYMPTOMS OF POSTURAL HYPOTENSION
1. Lightheadedness.
2. Headache.
3. Blurred/diminish vision.
4. Temporary loss of consciousness.
DIAGNOSIS OF POSTURAL HYPOTENSION
The only test which is employed to diagnoses postural hypotension is measurement of blood pressure by using instrument called sphygmomanometer.
TREATMENT OF POSTURAL HYPOTENSION
When Postural hypotension is caused medications, the disorder may be rectify by adjusting the dosage or by discontinuing the medication. When the condition is caused by prolonged bed rest, improvement may occur by sitting up with increasing frequency each day. In some cases, physical counter pressure such as elastic hose or whole-body inflatable suits may be required. Dehydration is treated with salt and fluids.
