Postherpetic Neuralgia
INFORMATION ON POSTHERPETIC NEURALGIA
Postherpetic Neuralgia may be defined as severe burning or stabbing pain which is a result of irritation/damage to a nerve. The pain is usually for short duration but it may be severe.
CAUSES OF POSTHERPETIC NEURALGIA
The various factors which leads to the development of Postherpetic Neuralgia are:-
1. Inflammation.
2. Infection.
3. Compression or physical irritation of a nerve.
4. Tooth decay.
5. Poor diet.
6. Eye strain.
7. Exposure to damp or cold climate.
SYMPTOMS OF POSTHERPETIC NEURALGIA
Postherpetic neuralgia is severe pain at the back of the tongue, in the throat, and in the ear. The pain may also occur spontaneously, or it can be triggered by talking, eating, or swallowing.
TREATMENT OF POSTHERPETIC NEURALGIA
For Postherpetic neuralgia variety of treatments are available since their effectiveness varies from person-to-person.
Drugs like antidepressants, anticonvulsants, capsaicin, topical painkillers and desensitization, surgery can also come in frame if symptoms get more severe.
