Pituitary Tumors
INFORMATION ON PITUITARY TUMOR
Pituitary tumors are tumors found in the pituitary gland, a small organ about the size of a pea in the center of the brain just above the back of the nose. Pituitary tumor can have various severe hormonal affects on the body, and cause various secondary diseases such as Cushing's disease and acromegaly. In Cushing's disease, too many hormones called glucocorticoids are released into the bloodstream. This causes fat to build up in the face, back, and chest. Other pituitary tumors can cause a condition called acromegalyin which the hands, feet, and face are larger than normal.
CAUSES OF PITUITARY TUMOR
ost brain tumors, the cause of pituitary tumors is unknown. Some of the possible causes of pituitary tumor are:
1. growth hormone secreting
2. Prolactin secreting pituitary tumor
3. Cushing's disease
4. Prolactin secreting pituitary tumor
SYMPTOMS OF PITUITARY TUMOR
Some of the symptoms of pituitary tumor includes:-
1. Headaches
2. Vision problems
3. Visual disturbances
4. Nausea
5. Vomiting
TREATMENT OF PITUITARY TUMOR
Surgery to remove the pituitary gland is the most common treatment. Radiation is given to kill any tumors or cancer cells. Drugs may also be given to stop the production of hormones.
