Peripheral Neuropathy
INFORMATION ON PERIPHERAL NEUROPATHY
Peripheral neuropathy may be defined as a failure of the nerves beyond brain and spinal cord which are responsible for transporting information to and from the brain and spinal cord. Failure of these nerves produces pain, loss of sensation, and inability to control muscles movement.

CAUSES OF PERIPHERAL NEUROPATHY
The various factors which are responsible for the development of peripheral neuropathy are:-
1. Exposure to toxic compounds.
2. Hereditary disorders.
3. Diabetes.
4. Dietary deficiencies (especially vitamin B-12).
5. Excessive alcohol use.
6. Kidney failure.
7. Cancer
8. Side effect of certain medicines.
SYMPTOMS OF PERIPHERAL NEUROPATHY
The various symptoms that are shown by peripheral neuropathy are:-
1. Lack of muscle control.
2. Difficulty or inability to move a part of the body.
3. Blurred vision.
4. Decreased in ability to sweat.
5. Decreased ability to regulate body temperature.
6. Nausea or vomiting after meals.
7. Abdominal swelling.
8. Feeling full after eating a small amount.
9. Diarrhea.
10. Constipation.
11. Unintentional weight loss.
12. Urinary incontinence.
13. Difficulty beginning to urinate.
14. Male impotence.
DIAGNOSIS OF PERIPHERAL NEUROPATHY
Clinically peripheral neuropathy can be diagnosed by following procedure:-
1. EMG.
2. Nerve conduction tests.
3. Nerve biopsy.
4. Blood tests.
5. X-ray.
TREATMENT OF PERIPHERAL NEUROPATHY
So far there is no standard treatment for peripheral neuropathy. However, treatment of Peripheral Neuropathy is symptomatic and supportive and may include orthopedic surgery and bracing to improve mobility, and measures to protect against stress fractures-particularly in the feet and legs
