Opsoclonus Myoclonus

INFORMATION ON OPSOCLONUS MYOCLONUS
Opsoclonus myoclonus is a rare neurological disorder characterized by an unsteady, trembling gait, intention tremor (rhythmic, involuntary motions of the limbs during voluntary movements), myoclonus (brief, shock-like muscle spasms), and opsoclonus (irregular, rapid, horizontal and vertical eye movements).
CAUSES OF OPSOCLONUS MYOCLONUS
Some of the possible causes of Opsoclonus Myoclonus are -
• Tumors - Tumor actually refers to any type of lump or swelling in the body.
• Viral infections - Viruses are a very common type of infectious disease. Many of the most common human diseases are viral.
SYMPTOMS OF OPSOCLONUS MYOCLONUS
Some of the symptoms of Opsoclonus Myoclonus are:
• Unsteady gait
• Intention tremor
• Myoclonus
• Opsoclonus
• Difficulty speaking
TREATMENT OF OPSOCLONUS MYOCLONUS
Treatments for Opsoclonus Myoclonus are:
• Corticosteroids
• ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone)
• Treatment of the underlying tumor - In cases where there is a tumor present, treatment such as chemotherapy, surgery, or radiation may be required
