Myoclonic Encephalopathy
INFORMATION ON MYOCLONIC ENCEPHALOPATHY:-
Myoclonic encephalopathy may be defined as a rare neurological disorder which is characterized by involuntary movement of muscles and that of eye.
Myoclonic encephalopathy is mostly seen in children with tumors.
CAUSES OF MYOCLONIC ENCEPHALOPATHY:-
The consequences which are responsible for the development of Myoclonic encephalopathy are:-
1. Parental insults
2. Inborn errors of metabolism
3. Brain malformations
SYMPTOMS OF MYOCLONIC ENCEPHALOPATHY:-
1. Seizures.
2. Abnormal muscles jerk.
3. Unsteady gait.
4. Irregular, rapid, horizontal and vertical eye movements.
5. Dysarthria (poorly articulated speech)
6. Inability to speak.
7. Decreased muscle tone.
8. Lethargy.
9. Irritability.
10. Malaise.
DIAGNOSIS OF MYOCLONIC ENCEPHALOPATHY:-
Clinically Myoclonic encephalopathy can be diagnosed by:-
1. MRI.
2. EEG.
3. X-ray.
4. CT scan.
5. Physical examination.
TREATMENT OF MYOCLONIC ENCEPHALOPATHY:-
Treatment for Myoclonic encephalopathy may include intake of prescribed medicines such as corticosteroids or adrenocorticotropic hormone. In cases where there is a tumor is present as one of the symptoms in infants then, treatment such as chemotherapy, surgery, or radiation can come into picture.
