Moyamoya Disease
INFORMATION ON MOYAMOYA DISEASE:-
Moyamoya disease may be defined as a rare, progressive disorder which is characterized by blockage of major blood vessels around the whole base of the brain. As a result, abnormal blood vessels form in an attempt to reroute blood to the brain.
CAUSES OF MOYAMOYA DISEASE:-
The exact consequence which results in development of Moyamoya disease is not known yet however, researchers believe that it may be result of genetic disturbance.
SYMPTOMS OF MOYAMOYA DISEASE:-
1. Stroke.
2. Recurrent transient ischemic attacks.
3. Hemiparesis.
4. Seizures.
5. Disturbed consciousness.
6. Speech deficits.
7. Sensory impairments.
8. Cognitive impairments.
9. Involuntary movements.
10. Vision problems.
DIAGNOSIS OF MOYAMOYA DISEASE:-
Clinically Moyamoya disease can be diagnosed by:-
1. CT scan.
2. Angiography.
3. MRI.
4. X-ray.
TREATMENT OF MOYAMOYA DISEASE:-
There is no cure for Moyamoya disease. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive. Subjects experiencing stroke may be given aspirin, vasodilators, or anticoagulants to reduce the risk of future attacks. There are several different types of revascularization (restoration of blood supply) surgery that may be performed in some cases.
