Landau Kleffer Syndrome
INFORMATION ON LANDAU-KLEFFNER SYNDROME:-
Landau-kleffer syndrome may be defined as a rare childhood neurological disorder which is characterized by the sudden or gradual development of aphasia (loss of language) and an abnormal electro-encephalogram (EEG). Landau-kleffer syndrome affects that part of the brain which is responsible for control of speech and comprehension.
CAUSES OF LANDAU-KLEFFNER SYNDROME:-
The factors which are responsible for the development of Landau-kleffer syndrome are:-
1. Disorder of immune system.
2. Virus attack.
3. Brain trauma.
SYMPTOMS OF LANDAU-KLEFFNER SYNDROME:-
1. Problems in understanding words that has been said.
2. Loss of the ability to speak.
3. Depression.
4. Learning disability.
DIAGNOSIS OF LANDAU-KLEFFNER SYNDROME:-
The clinical methods used to diagnose Landau-kleffer syndrome are:-
1. EEG.
2. CT scan.
3. MRI.
TREATMENT OF LANDAU-KLEFFNER SYNDROME:-
Treatment for Landau-kleffer syndrome mainly consists of medications, such as anticonvulsants and corticosteroids, and speech therapy. Another controversial treatment option involves a surgical technique called multiple subpial transection in which the pathways of abnormal electrical brain activity are severed.
