INTRODUCTION TO KLIPPEL-TRENAUNAY SYNDROME:-
Klippel-Trenaunay Syndrome may be defined as a rare disorder that is present from birth, Klippel-Trenaunay Syndrome is characterized by abnormal growths on the skin consisting of masses of blood vessels, excessive growth of the soft tissue and bone of a leg or arm.
SYNONYMS OF KLIPPEL-TRENAUNAY SYNDROME:-
1. Klippel-Trenaunay-Weber Syndrome
2. Angio-osteohypertrophy
3. Nevus varicousus osteohypertrophicus syndrome
4. Hemangiectasia hypertrophicans
5. Nevus verucosus hypertrophicans
CAUSES OF KLIPPEL-TRENAUNAY SYNDROME:-
Presently a research on Klippel-Trenaunay Syndrome is going on in order to discover its cause. Scientist discovered that the disease may be autosomal dominant.
SYMPTOMS OF KLIPPEL-TRENAUNAY SYNDROME:-
1. Joint pain.
2. Muscles cramping.
3. Painful clotting.
4. Rectal bleeding.
DIAGNOSIS OF KLIPPEL-TRENAUNAY SYNDROME:-
Clinical Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome can be diagnosed by :-
1. MRI.
2. Ultrasonography.
3. Angiography.
TREATMENT OF KLIPPEL-TRENAUNAY SYNDROME:-
Although both nonoperative and surgical approaches can be used for the treatment of Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome:-
SUPPORTIVE APPROACH:-
1. Compression therapy
2. Anticoagulant therapy
SURGICAL APPROACH:-
1. Laser therapy.
2. Surgery.
