Isaac's Syndrome
INFORMATION ON ISAAC'S SYNDROME
Isaac's syndrome can also be named as neuromyotonia and Isaac's-Merten’s syndrome ,
which is continuous muscle fiber activity syndrome and a rare neuromuscular disorder that is caused by continuous signaling of the end regions of peripheral nerve fibers and activate muscle fibers. It is hereditary disease and causes in age of between 15 and 60.
Neuromyotonia (Isaac's Syndrome) is a pilling movement of the muscles, muscle stiffness that is present at rest and with exercise, typically increasing with the latter, and some trouble with the muscles relaxing after stopping using them.
Isaac’s Syndrome is a rare neuron muscular disorder which is caused by continuous signaling of the end regions of peripheral nerve fibers in such condition many patients develop weakened reflexes and muscle pain, but numbness is relatively uncommon.
SYNONYMS OF ISAAC'S SYNDROME
Isaac Syndrome is also named as Isaac’s-Merten’s syndrome and neuromyotonia.
Muscle stimulation disorders also called motor neuron disorders include amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, primary lateral sclerosis, progressive pseudo bulbar palsy, progressive muscular atrophy, progressive bulbar palsy, and post polio syndrome.
CAUSES OF ISAAC'S SYNDROME
No real causes have been discovered for happening of Isaac syndrome but near about ten present of patients get this disease in heredity order and each time different muscles and different parts of the body are affected by it.
Certain conditions can also cause Isaac Syndrome:-
1. Chronic lung disease
2. Iron deficiency
3. Diabetes mellitus
4. Peripheral neuropathies
5. Huntington's chorea
6. Anemia and related hemoglobin deficiencies
SYMPTOMS OF ISAAC'S SYNDROME
The most common symptoms of Isaac Syndrome are ptosis, diplopia, and muscle fatigability after exercise
Isaac’s Syndrome is progressive and it begins with weakness in hands as well as in feet. It can affect only onside of body than on the other and go spread out up the arm or leg During the disease weakness increases and apasticity develops where as muscles twitch and goes on tightening and muscle spasms are affected.

Near about 50% of its patients die in three years of its affect,10% live for ten years or more than ten years but few can survive as long to thirty years long.
DIAGNOSIS OF ISAAC'S SYNDROME
Diagnosis of Isaac syndrome is done on the patient’s treatment history and full description about the disease.
Diagnosis is also made by a sleep technician during an overnight polymnoram,
This records the sleep period and the bioelectrical process.
TREATMENT OF ISAAC'S SYNDROME
There are three types of drugs are used for treatment of Isaac syndrome
such as:-benzodiazepines, Parkinson drugs and narcotics.
As there is no any static treatment of Isaac’s syndrome but yet physical therapy can helps people maintain their muscle strength and helps prevent tightening of the muscles.
Plasma exchange can also provide short-term relief to patients with some forms of the acquired disorder.
Carbamazepine, anticonvulsants and phenytoin provides significant relief from the stiffness, muscle spasms, and pain associated with Isaac's syndrome.
