INFORMATION ON IMMUNE-MEDIATED ENCEPHALOMYELITIS
Also known as acute disseminated encephalomyelitis is attack of inflammation in the brain and spinal cord that damages myelin – the protective covering of nerve fibers.
The true incidence of this disease in India is undetermined and is likely to be more frequent than reported, as the common antecedent events, exanthemata fevers and Semple antirabies vaccination, which predispose to Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, are still prevalent.
It often follows viral infection, or less often, vaccination for measles, mumps, or rubella.

SYNONYMS OF IMMUNE-MEDIATED ENCEPHALOMYELITIS
Immune-mediated encephalomyelitis can also term as:
- Post infectious Encephalomyelitis
- post infectious encephalomyelitis
CAUSES OF IMMUNE-MEDIATED ENCEPHALOMYELITIS
Immune-mediated encephalomyelitis can result of damage to white matter that is brain tissue which is named due to white color of myelin, leading to neurological symptoms such as blindness causing one or both two eyes and weakness even to the point of paralysis with voluntary muscle movements.
DIAGNOSIS IMMUNE-MEDIATED ENCEPHALOMYELITIS
Diagnosis is made on patient’s medical history or past treatment report.
Use of magnetic resonance imaging and examination of the cerebrospinal fluid is done as a matter of medical treatment.
Cerebrospinal fluid is elevated levels of white blood cells and protein; and magnetic resonance imaging can reveal brain alterations.
TREATMENT OF IMMUNE-MEDIATED ENCEPHALOMYELITIS
No therapy has been established by controlled trials in Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis
Initial administration of intravenous immunoglobulin might be of therapeutic value
Use of high doses of steroids can often produce a rapid diminishing of the symptoms. Other kinds of treatment depend on the nature of the symptoms that develop.
Supportive care includes keeping a patient comfortable and hydrated
Treatment for Immune-Mediated Encephalomyelitis includes corticosteroid medications. Other treatment is symptomatic and supportive.
