Hypoxia

what is Hypoxia
Hypoxia is a condition in which there is low oxygen level in the tissue. It is also known as a Hypoxic encephalopathy.
Causes of Hypoxia
There are several causes of Hypoxia -
1) Drug overdose
2) Drowning
3) Strangulation
4) Asphyxiation caused by smoke inhalation
5) Strangulation
6) High altitudes
7) Compression of the trachea
8) Complications of general anesthesia
9) Asphyxiation
10) Injuries during birth
11) Cardiac arrest
12) Carbon monoxide poisoning
Signs and symptoms of Hypoxia
Symptoms of Hypoxia are given below -
1) unawareness
2) unresponsiveness
3) Including papillary response to light
4) Breathing reflex
5) Brain stem reflexes
6) Inattentiveness
Treatment of Hypoxia
Treatment of Hypoxia depends upon its causes. To secure the airway mechanical ventilation must be used. Fluids, blood products, or medications are used to control blood pressure. Heart Rate must be controlled. Medications such as Phenobarbital, valproic acid, phenytoin and general anesthetics .If the hypoxia is caused because of heat then cooling with blankets is useful.
