Dyspraxia
INTRODUCTION TO DYSPRAXIA:-
Dyspraxia may be defined as a specific disorder in the area of motor skill development. People with dyspraxia have difficulty planning and completing intended fine motor tasks.
CAUSES OF DYSPRAXIA:-
The factor which leads to the development of dyspraxia are:-
1. Inherited from parents.
2. Stroke.
3. Damage to brain through accident.
4. Side effect of some strong medicines.
SYMPTOMS OF DYSPRAXIA:-
1. Poor posture.
2. Difficulty with throwing and catching a ball.
3. Poor awareness of body position in space.
4. Poor sense of direction.
5. Difficulty hopping, skipping or riding a bike.
6. Sensitive to touch.
7. Confused about which hand to use.
8. Intolerance of having hair or teeth brushed nails and hair cut.
9. Slow to learn to dress or feed themselves.
10. Find some clothes uncomfortable.
11. Difficulty with reading, writing.
12. Speech problems
DIAGNOSIS OF DYSPRAXIA:-
There is no proper diagnosis available for dyspraxia but, the diagnosis of the disorder can be identifying by observing the activities and noting the symptoms.
TREATMENT OF DYSPRAXIA:-
Treatment is symptomatic and supportive and may include occupational and speech therapy, and "cueing" or other forms of communication such as using pictures and hand gestures. Many children with the disorder require special education.
