Devic's Syndrome

INTRODUCTION TO DEVIC’S SYNDROME:-

Devic's disease may be defined as inflammatory disease of the central nervous system which leads to the inflammation and damage to the myelin which as a result affect the optic nerves and spinal cord.


CAUSE OF DEVIC’S SYNDROME:-

Devic’s disease is a rare disease so particular cause is not known yet but, it has been observed that due to gene disturbance this disease may come into picture.


SYMPTOMS OF DEVIC’S SYNDROME:-

1. Paralysis.
2. Blindness in one or both eye.
3. Incontinence.
4. Headache.
5. Postural tremor.


DIAGNOSIS OF DEVIC’S SYNDROME:-

There are many clinical test available which help to diagnose the presence of Devic’s syndrome, these are:-

1. MRI scans.
2. Blood test.
3. Neurophysiologic Tests.

TREATMENT OF DEVIC’S SYNDROME:-

There is currently no standard treatment for Devic's syndrome. Basically, treatment is symptomatic and supportive. Also Corticosteroids can be prescribed.
