Dejerine Klumpke Palsy
INFORMATION ON DEJERINE-KLUMPKE PALSY:-
Dejerine-Klumpke palsy refers to paralysis of the lower brachial plexus which is a network of nerves that conducts signals from the spine to the shoulder, arm, and hand.
SYNOMS OF DEJERINE-KLUMPKE PALSY:-
1. Brachial plexus neuritis.
2. Lower brachial plexus palsy (Waiter’s tip).
3. Lower radicular neuritis.
4. Lower radicular syndrome.
CAUSES OF DEJERINE-KLUMPKE PALSY:-
The main events which are responsible for development of Dejerine-Klumpke palsy are:-
1. Injury during birth.
2. Stretch to the shoulder.
SYMPTOMS OF DEJERINE-KLUMPKE PALSY:-
1. Paralysis of the shoulder and upper part of the arm.
2. Low in motion.
3. Weakness of the affected muscles.
4. Poor weight lifting capability.
5. Lack of sensation.
DIAGNOSIS OF DEJERINE-KLUMPKE PALSY:-
1. MRI.
2. CT Scan
3. X-ray.
TREATMENT OF DEJERINE-KLUMPKE PALSY:-
Treatment of Dejerine-Klumpke palsy usually consists of physical therapy and splinting of the affected area. Improvement is usually faster, but in some cases surgery can come into play to repair the damaged nerves. Early evaluation is important and, if necessary, treatment as soon as possible.
