2. Familial /Dandy Walker Malformation
CAUSES OF DANDY-WALKER SYNDROME:--
The main factors which are responsible of Dandy Walker syndrome are unknown. But it has been suggested that:-
1. abnormalities in chromosomes
2. exposure to an anti-acne (anti-pimple) medication called isotretinoin during the first three months that the baby is developing inside the mother

DIAGNOSIS OF DANDY WALKER SYNDROME:-
Dandy Walker syndrome is diagnosed with:-
1. X-rays.
2. CT-scan.
3. MRI.
4. Ultrasound.
TREATMENT OF DANDY WALKER SYNDROME:-
The treatment for dandy walker syndrome is done by the placement of a ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt. This is a procedure in which a neurosurgeon places one end of a small tube in a ventricle in the brain, and threads the other end under the skin down to the abdominal cavity. The tube helps to direct excess CSF to the peritoneal cavity where it is reabsorbed by the body.
Another method of treatment is endoscopic fenestration. In this procedure a small, flexible viewing device, called an endoscope, is inserted into the brain and an opening is made between the third and fourth ventricles or in the foramina at the base of the brain..
Other treatments of dandy walker syndrome include anti-seizure, medications, and OT/PT for neuromuscular problems.
