Cumulative Trauma

INFORMATION ON CUMULATIVE TRAUMA DISORDERS
Cumulative trauma disorders of the upper extremity are also called CTDS. Cumulative trauma disorders refer to any muscular or bone disorder that happens in the upper body. Some of these are:

• Carpal tunnel syndrome
• Flexor tendonitis
• Myofascial pain

Some individuals are more at danger for Cumulative Trauma Disorders than others. Those who are at risk consists of people who do cyclic tasks and those who are under stress. Women may be mainly affected.
CAUSES OF CUMULATIVE TRAUMA DISORDERS
What causes CTDS is a matter for debate. But, it is identified there are some things that aggravate the disorders. These include repetitive tasks (like typing), cold temperatures, vibrations, even whether or not you like your job. CTDs are compound disorders that involve both physical and psychological factors.


SYMPTOMS OF CUMULATIVE TRAUMA DISORDERS

• Generalized pain
• Fatigue
• Feel of no sensation
• A feeling of being swollen in the affected area

TREATMENT OF CUMULATIVE TRAUMA DISORDERS
The first treatment for a Cumulative Trauma Disorders is to apply ice on the affected area. When there is less pain, an exercise program can be started. At work, try to do less repetitive tasks.
To get rid of the Cumulative Trauma Disorders, the approach of a healthcare team might be supporting and caring. This might include a physical therapist, a vocational counselor, and an occupational health nurse.
