What is Batten disease
Batten disease can be defined as a group of inherited neurological disorders (mostly affects children) and marked by progressive vision failure and other disorders that affect the brain.
Causes of Batten Disease
Batten Disease is an inherited disorder of the nervous system. Batten Disease is an autonomic recessive disease...to be affected; a child must inherit two defective genes, one from each parent. If each parent carries the defective gene, chances are 1-in-4 that any child will be affected. Batten Disease is caused by missing enzymes (resulting in the body's inability to break down substances in the normal way...such as fat and associated sugars and proteins).
Signs And Symptoms of Batten Disease
Common symptoms of Batten Disease are given below -
1) Stumbling
2) Seizures
3) Slow learning
4) Personality changes
5) Vision loss6) Behavior changes
7) Muscle in-coordination
8) Muscle spasms
Treatment of Batten Disease
There is no known prevention method for Batten Disease .However, seizures can sometimes be reduced or controlled with anticonvulsant drugs, and other medical problems can be treated appropriately as they arise. Occupational therapy and physical therapy may also help patients retain functions as long as possible. Vitamin C and vitamin D in your food may also help to reduce symptoms. The treatment of Batten Disease may includes -

3) Anticonvulsants
4) Supportive and Symptomatic Treatment
Prevention of Batten Disease
There is no known way to prevent Batten disease.
