Aicardi Syndrome

INFORMATION ON AICARDI SYNDROME
Aicardi Syndrome may be defined as the rare genetic disorder that is characterized by the partial or complete absence of the structure that links the two hemispheres of the brain, the corpus callosum. Aicardi Syndrome disorder affects only girls.
CAUSES OF AICARDI SYNDROME
The main factors which results in disorder called Aicardi syndrome are:-

1. Genetic disorder.
2. Sporadic mutation.
SYMPTOMS OF AICARDI SYNDROME
1. Abnormal formations in the brain.
2. Abnormal ribs or spine.
3. Eye abnormalities.
DIAGNOSIS OF AICARDI SYNDROME
1. Eye exam will be performed to confirm retinal involvement.
2. CT scan.
3. EEG.
4. MRI.
TREATMENT OF AICARDI SYNDROME
There is no cure for Aicardi Syndrome nor is there a standard course of treatment. Treatment mainly involves medical management of seizures and programs to help parents and the child cope with developmental delays.
