Agnosia

INFORMATION ON AGNOSIA
Agnosia may be defined as the loss of ability to recognize objects, persons, sounds, shapes or smells while the specific sense is not defective nor is there any significant memory loss.
CAUSES OF AGNOSIA
The factor which leads to the development of Agnosia are:-

1. Strokes.
2. Dementia.
3. Neurological disorders.
4. Developmental disorders.
SYMPTOMS OF AGNOSIA
1. Difficulty in recognizing the geometric features of an object or face.
2. Impaired vision or hearing.
3. Inability to recognize sounds.

DIAGNOSIS OF AGNOSIA:-
1. Endoscopy.
2. MRI.
3. CT scan.
TREATMENT OF AGNOSIA
There is no direct cure of Agnosia. Patients may improve if information is presented in other modalities than the damaged one. In some cases, occupational therapy or speech therapy can improve Agnosia, depending on its etiology.
