What is Renal Tubular Acidosis Type I
Renal Tubular Acidosis Type I is also known as a Renal tubular acidosis – distal , Classical RTA, Type I RTA, RTA – distal. Distal renal tubular acidosis is caused by abnormal excretion of acid from the distal tubule of each nephrons. As a result, your body is left an acidic state (called acidosis).
Causes of Renal Tubular Acidosis Type I
Renal Tubular Acidosis Type I occurs when our kidneys are unable to excrete acids into urine, This causes our blood to acidic. Generally the breakdown of certain foods in our body produces acids ( that circulate in our blood ) .Some small tubes in our kidneys remove these acids from our blood .our kidney ( renals ) then excrete the acids into the urine and return an alkaline substance to our bloodstream .In Renal Tubular Acidosis I , kidneys are unable to excrete acids or to reabsorbed bicarbonate .
Signs and Symptoms of Renal Tubular Acidosis Type I
Common symptoms of Renal Tubular Acidosis Type I are given below -
1) weakness
2) Increased rate of breathing
3) Fatigue
4) Confusion or decreased alertness
Treatment of Renal Tubular Acidosis Type I
The treatment of Renal Tubular Acidosis Type I is required to store restore the normal pH (acid-base level) and normal electrolyte balance . This will indirectly correct bone disorders and reduce the risk of Nephrocalcinosis and kidney stones. To correct the acidic condition of the body ,Alkaline medications (sodium bicarbonate and potassium citrate) are administered.
Calcium supplements and Vitamin D are usually not given because the tendency toward Nephrocalcinosis persists even after bicarbonate therapy.
Prevention
There is no particular prevention for this disease.
What is Renal Tubular Acidosis Type II
Renal Tubular Acidosis Type II is also known as a Renal tubular acidosis - proximal, Type II RTA, RTA - proximal. The kidney (Renals) contains over a million functional units that is known as nephrons, which filter your blood and produce urine. Generally, a blood buffer called bicarbonate is reabsorbed into the blood in the proximal tubule of each nephrons .When it is not reabsorbed properly, your body is left an acidic state (called acidosis).
Causes of Renal Tubular Acidosis Type II
Proximal renal tubular acidosis (Type II RTA) is a result of poor bicarbonate reabsorption by the proximal tubules . This results the lower bicarbonate buffer in the blood, causing metabolic acidosis. Type II RTA is less common than Type I RTA. Several different molecular abnormalities can result Typr II RTA. People with Type II RTA tend to reabsorb chloride to compensate, and thus have high blood serum chloride levels. They are also low in potassium.
Signs And Symptoms of Proximal renal tubular acidosis
Common symptoms of Proximal renal tubular acidosis are given below -
1) Muscle pain
2) Weakness
3) Fatigue
4) Decreased alertness
5) Frequent breathing
Treatment of Proximal renal tubular acidosis
To restore the normal pH (acid-base level) and a normal electrolyte balance to the body is the main goal of the treatment . Treatment of this disease can indirectly correct the bone disorders and decrease the risk of osteopenia in adults . To correct the acidic condition of the body ,Alkaline medications (sodium bicarbonate and potassium citrate) are administered.
Calcium supplements and Vitamin D are usually not given because the tendency toward Nephrocalcinosis persists even after bicarbonate therapy.
