What is Renal Papillary Necrosis
Renal Papillary Necrosis can be defined as a disorder of the renals( kidneys) involving death of some or all of the renal papillae. Renal Papillary Necrosis is also known as a Renal Medullary Necrosis, Necrosis - Renal Papillae.
Causes of Renal Papillary Necrosis
A specific area of the kidneys from where the openings from the collecting ducts enter the renal pelvis , is known as a renal papillae. Necrosis of this area of kidney may make the kidney unable concentrate the urine. This may increased the urine volume and frequent urination. Presence of necrotic tissue can increase the risk of urinary tract infection. Necrosis of multiple papillae in the renal (kidney) may lead to damage of the kidney. Sickle cell anemia, renal infections, renal transplant rejection, analgesic nephropathy, diabetic nephropathy may results Renal Papillary Necrosis.
Signs And Symptoms of Renal Papillary Necrosis
Symptoms of Renal Papillary Necrosis are given below -
1) Back Pain
2) Flank Pain
3) Blood in urine
4) Foamy urine
5) Tissue in the urine
6) Dark rust colored urine
7) painful urination
8) Frequent urination
9) Chills
10) polyuria
Treatment of Renal Papillary Necrosis
There is no particular treatment for Renal Papillary Necrosis. If analgesic nephropathy is the cause of this disorder then stop the use of suspected medication .If nephropathy is caused by diabetes and skill cell anemia then there is need to control these disorder to reduce renal papillary Necrosis . Antibiotics are also helpful in the treatment of this disease.
Prevention
Prompt treatment of diabetes and sickle cell anemia can reduce risk .Careful moderation in the use of medications (including over the counter analgesics) is needed.
