Renal Artery Embolism

What is Renal Artery Embolism

Acute renal arterial can be defined as a condition of sudden and severe blockage of the artery (that supplies blood to the kidney). The alternative names of this disease are Acute renal artery occlusion, Embolism - Renal Artery and Acute Renal Arterial Thrombosis.

Causes of Renal Artery Embolism

Kidneys are very sensitive part of our human body. Any reduction of blood flow through the kidney artery can impair renal function. the complete blockage of blood flow can results the complete kidney failure. If the one kidney does not work then it may not cause any symptoms because second kidney adequately filters the blood .Blockage of blood in both the kidney can lead to acute kidney failure .

Signs and Symptoms of Renal Artery Embolism

Symptoms of Renal Artery Embolism are given below-
1) Blooded urine
2) Flank pain
3) Back Pain
4) Abdominal pain

Treatment of Renal Artery Embolism

There is no specific treatment for Renal Artery Embolism. If within a few hours of occurrence of blockage is discovered or only if the affected kidney is the only functional kidney, attempt may be made to open the artery. This may include use of clot dissolving medication and medications that prevent the blood from clotting. Some times there is need of surgical removal of the blockage.

Prevention

In most of the cases the disorder is not preventable. To reduce risk it is necessary to stop smoking. Control of atherosclerotic disease may reduce risk.
