What is Post-Streptococcal GN

Post-streptococcal GN is also known as a Post-infectious glomerulonephritis, Glomerulonephritis. It is a disorder of kidneys. It mainly occurs after infection. It is an inflammation of the glomeruli with certain strains of the streptococcus bacterium.

Causes of Post-streptococcal GN

Post-streptococcal GN is a form of glomerulonephritis. IT cause by infection but not in kidney such as an infection in throat or skin, as this infection is grows then it becoming trapped in the glomeruli of the kidneys and it become inflamed. Because of this infection the kidney could not do their functions properly.

There are some risk factor which are given below -
1) Sore throat
2) Strep throat
3) Streptococcal skin infections
4) Streptococcal infections

Signs And Symptoms of Post-streptococcal GN

Symptoms are given below-
1) Decreased urine output
2) Cough, with sputum
3) Rust-colored urine
4) Blood in the urine
5) Smoky urine
6) Swelling (In Face, Eyes, Feet, ankles, abdomen)
7) Joint Pain

Treatment of Post-streptococcal GN

There is no particular treatment method for post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis.Goal of the treatment is to reduce the symptoms. Some antibiotics are also useful in the treatment of post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis disease such as penicillin which is used to destroy the bacteria. To control swelling and high blood pressure, diuretic medications and Antihypertensive medications may be needed. Some dietary restriction ( less salt) is also helpful to control high blood pressure and swelling .

Prevention

Post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis can be prevented by Adequate treatment of known streptococcal infections .
