Minimal Change Disease

What is Minimal Change Disease

Minimal change disease is also known as Nil disease , Minimal change nephrotic syndrome , Lipoid nephrosis , Idiopathic nephrotic syndrome of childhood .
It can be defined as a renal disorder which is one of the cause of nephrotic syndrome. It is called " minimal changed " because the nephrons appears totally normal under a light microscope.

Causes of Minimal Change Disease

Minimal change disease is mostly occurs in children. The cause is unknown but it may be the result of viral infection ,recent immunization and allergic infection.

Signs And Symptoms

Symptoms of minimal change disease are given below -
1) Poor appetite
2) Weight gain
3) Foamy appearance of the urine
4) Swelling ( especially around the eyes, in abdomen, in feet or ankles)

Treatment of Minimal Change Disease

Swelling can be reduce by treatment of blood pressure , with water pills and ACE inhibitor medicines . Minimal change disease may also cured by corticosteroids . Some patients may require maintenance on steroids to sustain the remission. If that happens, they usually respond well to a repeat course of the steroids.

Prevention

There is no prevention method for this disease .
