What is Interstitial Cystitis
Interstitial Cystitis can be defined as a chronic inflammation of the bladder that is responsible to frequently urination and pain.
Causes of Interstitial Cystitis
Mostly it causes by some bacterial infection. It may be caused by defect in the lining of the bladder. The bladder wall can be protected by this lining. Excess of histamine-producing cells in the bladder wall or an autoimmune response is also a cause of interstitial Cystitis.
Signs And Symptoms of Interstitial Cystitis
The following symptoms are shown in the people who have Interstitial Cystitis -
1) Pain, pressure and tenderness around the bladder
2) Frequently urination
3) Pain during sexual intercourse
4) For the men, Pain or discomfort in the penis or scrotum
5) A bladder that is unable to hold as much urine as it did before.
Treatment of Interstitial Cystitis
There is no particular cure for IC (Interstitial Cystitis).The treatment has to be done to relieve symptoms. Medications, biophysical techniques, surgery are some methods of treatment. Biophysical techniques includes TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation), bladder retraining, diet modification, stress reduction with biofeedback.
Medications are also very helpful in the treatment of Interstitial Cystitis.
Surgery is recommended only in the case if the treatment is failed to provide the relief. There are two methods to remove hunner's ulcers from the bladder In the case of ulcerative Interstitial Cystitis.
1) Fulguration (Laser burning)
2) resection (surgical removal)
Dietary modification, oral medication, bladder training, Electrical nerve stimulation, Bladder instillation, Bladder distention are also the part of treatment of Interstitial Cystitis.
Prevention
Because of unknown cause of Interstitial Cystitis, there is no prevention method. But in general the symptoms can be reduces by avoid smoking, alcoholic drinks, citrus juice or caffeine, spicy food and chocolate.
