What is End-Stage Kidney Disease
End-stage kidney disease is also known as ESRD, means complete failure of the renal to function to discharged wastes, regulate electrolytes and concentrate urine.
Causes of End-Stage Kidney Disease
When our renal (kidneys) unable to do their function properly at a level that is required for day to day life, End-stage kidney disease occurs. It generally occurs chronic renal failure worsens to the point where kidney function is less than 10% of normal.
At this point, the renal (kidney) function is very low .So that without dialysis or renal (kidney) transplantation, complications are severe, and death will occur from accumulation of waste products in the body and fluids.
Signs and Symptoms of End-Stage Kidney Disease
Following are the symptoms of End- stage kidney disease -
1) General ill feeling
2) Headaches
3) Generalized itching
4) No urine output
5) May have blood in the vomit or stools
6) lethargy, somnolence, drowsiness
7) coma
8) Muscle twitching or cramps
9) confusion, delirium
10) Increased skin pigmentation
11) Nail abnormalities
12) Decreased sensation in the hands, feet, or other areas
13) Skin may appear yellow or brown
14) Decreased alertness
15) Greatly decreased urine output
16) frequent hiccups
17) Easy bruising or bleeding
18) Seizures
Treatment of End-Stage Kidney Disease
kidney transplantation or Dialysis is only the way of treatment of end stage kidney disease. It depends on the physical condition of the person that which method is suitable for him. Aggressive treatment of high blood pressure with an ACE inhibitor or an angiotensin receptor blocker is includes in current therapy.
Some other diseases such as urinary tract infections, high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, kidney stones, glomerulonephritis, obstructions of the urinary tract and other disorders that are caused by end-stage kidney disease, should be treated.
To control anemia, medications and Blood transfusions such as erythropoietin and iron may be needed.
Dietary restrictions also helpful in the treatment of this disease.
Prevention
Treatment of chronic kidney failure may delay or prevent progression to End-stage renal disease. Some cases may not be preventable. Take some precautions such as dietary restriction that includes low fat, low cholesterol, low protein diet, less salt, phosphours, potassium.
