What is Congenital Nephrotic Syndrome
Congenital Nephrotic Syndrome is also known as a Nephrotic Syndrome. It is caused by some genetic factor. Nephrotic Syndrome is characterized by swelling of the body and protein in the urine. This is very rare form of nephrotic syndrome.
Causes of Congenital Nephrotic Syndrome
Genetic factor is the main cause of nephrotic syndrome or we can say that it is an inherited disorder. It is the condition which is caused by the protein named nephrin that is found in the kidney.
Kidney failure is the main cause of swelling (combined with the loss of blood proteins) .this is because the proteins are responsible to keep fluids in the blood and the fluid can leek into the body tissue when protein level is low. Congenital Nephrotic Syndrome results in malnutrition, Kidney failure and infection.
Signs and Symptoms of Congenital Nephrotic Syndrome
Common symptoms of Congenital Nephrotic Syndrome are given below -
1) Swelling
2) Low weight
3) Poor appetite
4) coughs
5) Less urine output
6) Foamy form of urine
7) large placenta
8) dull hair
9) fatigue and malaise
10) Allergies
Treatment of Congenital Nephrotic Syndrome
To control the congenital nephrotic syndrome , early and effective treatment is required .The treatment includes diuretic medications that may help to reduce the excess fluid of the body .To control the spilling of protein in the urine, non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs and ACE inhibitor medications are used .
Infection is controlled by use of antibiotics. There is need of some dietary changes such as restriction of sodium; fluids also may be restricted to control swelling. In the severe cases kidney transplantation, dialysis or removal of the kidneys may be recommended.
Prevention
Prevention of congenital nephrotic syndrome includes dietary restrictions; avoid smoking and alcoholic drinks etc.
