Hypercalcemia
Hypercalcemia is a high level of calcium in the blood.
Causes of Hypercalcemia
Calcium plays a vital role in our body. In muscle contraction, nerve and brain function, bone formation and in the release of hormones, calcium is necessary. In our body PTH (parathyroid hormone) and vitamin D makes a balance of calcium in our body. Parathyroid glands produce PTH. But if there is excess PTH in our body then it may cause Hypercalcemia.
Signs and Symptoms
The symptoms of Hypercalcemia are given below -
1) Bone pain
2) loss of height
3) Pathological fractures
4) vomiting
5) weight loss
6) muscle weakness
7) Restlessness
8) confusion
9) Appetite loss
Treatment for Hypercalcemia
Intravenous fluids, Bisphosphonates, Glucocorticoids, Hemodialysis are involves in the treatment of Hypercalcemia.
