Diabetes mellitus
Diabetes mellitus can be defined as excess production of insulin. It is disease of pancreas which causes the disorder of the glucose and insulin metabolism.
There are mainly three type of diabetes -
1) Type 1 diabetes
2) Type 2 diabetes
3) Gestational diabetes
Type 1 diabetes mostly occurs in childhood, In this type of diabetes the body makes minuet or no insulin so daily insulin injection are required .
Type 2 Diabetes is mostly occurs in adulthood. In this type of disease pancreas does not able to make enough insulin. It’s a very common diabetes type.
The third one is gestational diabetes in which very high blood glucose may develop at any time (during pregnancy).
Causes of Diabetes mellitus
in our food digestion process, sugar play a very important role. This sugar or glucose enters in the blood stream .Glucose is just like a fuel for the body. Another important thing in digestion is pancreas that makes insulin .The main work of insulin is to move glucose into muscle, liver cells, fat from the blood stream. When the pancreas does not able to make enough insulin then this disease occurs. In other words we can say that diabetes is a disorder of insulin metabolism. The diabetic people have high blood glucose.
High blood pressure, high cholesterol level, some genetic reason, Gestational diabetes, age factor, obesity are some other causes of diabetes.
Signs and symptoms
Symptoms of diabetes are given below-
1) feel irritation
2) Weakness
3) Vomiting
4) Extreme hunger
5) Rapidly weight loss
6) Excessive thirsts
7) Extreme hungers
8) Blurred vision
Treatment for Diabetes mellitus
The treatment of diabetes depends upon the type of this disease. Intensive insulin therapy is used in treatment of type 1 diabetes. This therapy involves the daily insulin injection, insulin pen or pumps use lispro or humalog.
The type 2 diabetes or non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus have three main causes - abnormality in pancreas, liver, muscles. For treatment of this type of diabetic patient blood glucose monitoring is necessary also they should avoid the hypoglycemia. Diabetes medication is also very important. Sulfonylureas, Troglitazone and Acarbose are some effective medicines.
